Haddonstone, the UK’s leading manufacturer of fine architectural stonework and landscape ornaments, was honoured to be chosen to supply stonework to the prestigious Poundbury project – an urban extension of Dorchester advocated by The Prince of Wales.
Working closely with architect Ben Pentreath, the main contractor C G Fry & Son Ltd and the fixing contractor Henley Stone, Haddonstone manufactured a wide range of bespoke architectural stonework designs to create custom classical facades for the main building. Haddonstone’s designs have also been used extensively throughout the development.
Designs for the development included custom columns, entablature, window sills and cladding – many of which are designed based on the orders of classical architecture. Bespoke architectural stonework was designed and manufactured by Haddonstone’s skilled craftsmen at the company’s Northamptonshire manufactory.
Haddonstone is a unique form of cast limestone with a surface texture similar to Portland stone. The material matures and weathers like natural stone yet, piece for piece, normally costs significantly less than quarried stone. Haddonstone’s standard designs range from porticos, window surrounds and balustrades to gate piers, landscape ornaments and fireplaces.
