The building transition demands a fundamental shift in the way resources are used in the planning and construction of buildings. Test reports and certifications from independent third parties provide users, architects and building owners with assurance regarding manufacturers’ sustainability claims.
The independent testing institute Süddeutsches Kunststoff-Zentrum (SKZ) has now confirmed in a newly revised study that the EPDM waterproofing products RESITRIX® and HERTALAN® from Europe’s leading EPDM specialist CARLISLE® CM Europe have a service life of over 70 years. The products also retain high tensile strength throughout this projected time span.
“We are very pleased with this test result, which recognises our ongoing efforts in research and development,” says Klaas Kortegast, Vice President Sales & Marketing at CARLISLE® CM Europe. “Until now, SKZ had certified our RESITRIX® and HERTALAN® waterproofing systems with a service life well over 50 years. Reaching over 70 years is another major milestone,” he adds. “Of course, proper installation is always a precondition. That’s why we train installers at our CARLISLE®.”
Outstanding Sustainability
RESITRIX® and HERTALAN® EPDM waterproofing membranes are installed in a single layer, which means up to 85% material savings compared to multilayer systems. This reduction in material not only leads to lower costs and more efficient transport but also contributes significantly to conserving natural resources. The products are installed without open flame, are root-resistant and therefore ideal for use under all types of green roofs. RESITRIX® is DGNB-compliant, EPD- and Green Label Singapore-certified, and rated by NIBE as highly environmentally and health-friendly. HERTALAN® holds EPD, DUBOKEUR, and Cradle to Cradle™ certification.
The initiator of the new SKZ study is the Dutch-Belgian association VESP (Verenigde EPDM Systeem Producenten), in which more than 90 % of all EPDM manufacturers from these countries are represented. Founded in 1995, VESP’s primary objective is to provide information about and promote EPDM waterproofing products.
