Naylor Drainage has introduced MetroDuct Class 1, a new twin wall polypropylene below ground cable duct that meets the changing demands of the energy distribution market.
Naylor Drainage, the manufacturer of clay and plastic drainage pipes, ducting and environmental products, is enhancing its product range for the energy distribution and communications market to offer solutions that meet a range of applications to serve sustainable energy networks.
MetroDuct Class 1 meets the Energy Network Association Technical Specification 12-24 (ENATS 12-24), complies with Class 1 performance and is suitable for use with high voltage power cables used in sustainable energy networks. This includes wind power, solar power and EV distribution networks. The duct can also be used with standard high voltage electricity distribution networks.
In addition to ENATS 12-24 Clause 10, MetroDuct Class 1 satisfies BS EN 61386-24 to give minimum 450 N compression strength at 75⁰C. It has also been rated IP4X in accordance with BS EN 60529. IP4X protects the cables in the trunking not only against the ingress of a 1.0mm diameter wire or greater but also against solid foreign objects (eg. debris) which could damage the cables inside.
The introduction of MetroDuct Class 1 is part of Naylor Drainage’s ongoing programme of investment in its manufacturing facilities and product research and development to provide best-in-class products that meet the evolving requirements of the civils, utilities and telecommunications sectors.
More than £9million has been invested in the past two years, leaving Naylor Drainage well positioned to introduce more high-performance products in the near future.
Darren Cockayne, Technical Director, Naylor Drainage comments: “As the technology used to harness energy increasingly diversifies to include solar, hydro, wind and biomass sources, manufacturers need to supply products that can offer the most efficient way to transfer the energy over considerable distances.
“The MetroDuct Class 1 is the latest product from Naylor Drainage that meets the highest specifications and standards for energy distribution, providing assurance to installers and contractors that it can meet the demand of any project or terrain.”
MetroDuct Class 1 has a corrugated outer layer for strength and stiffness, with a smooth inner layer for easy cable insertion. The duct is available in three sizes:
- 100mm ID (120mm OD)
- 125mm ID (145mm OD)
- 150mm ID (178mm OD)
The duct is compatible with other Naylor Drainage products including Class 2 ducting, Access Boxes and PVC ducting, providing a comprehensive design flexibility for engineers, with access to Naylor Drainage’s technical team to provide guidance and assistance.
