The new RHS Rosemoor garden is nestled in a North Devon Valley and designed with rainfall in mind.
Addagrip approved contractor IDream Solutions were chosen to provide the surfacing for this stunning garden using specialist dried aggregates supplied by Long Rake Spar.
IDream Solutions installed over 320m2 of resin bound pathways for the new Cool Garden designed by multi-award-winning designer Jo Thompson.
The design has a strong focus on water, embracing the challenge of the high levels of rainfall experienced in the region.
The garden consists of a series of curving rills which make their way through the garden, disappearing and reappearing to flow into the pond at the bottom of the sloping site. This provides an example of how effectively a specially designed landscape can accommodate heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
With water flow in mind, BBA certified Terrabound resin bound surfacing was chosen due to its porous qualities. Long Rake Spar decorative aggregates were used within this surfacing to create the curving pathways that follow the rills and form organic shaped planting beds which help to reduce surface water runoff.
A 6mm Hazelnut natural aggregate blend was selected to contrast with the cool coloured planting scheme and complement the dry stone walling.
The garden also needed to be easily accessible for wheelchair users and the seamless resin bound surfacing ensures easy movement around it. Furthermore it provides a low maintenance and decorative pathway for this stunning new garden.
The installation was completed in time for the opening in July 2019.
