Scotland is synonym of steep mountains, historic castles and dream places such as Blairlogie, an idyllic village of only 58 inhabitants located on the outskirts of Stirling. This outstanding area houses a charming residential area featuring CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate: Powis Mains Farm.
In this renovation development some old houses and barns have been removed and replaced with 11 dazzling three-room houses, which stand out for their rustic style. Once again, natural slate has a vital role assuring the durability and quality of the residences, and at the same time, maintaining their traditional appearance.
The individual houses are composed by a large open plan kitchen, family lounge, w/c, utility, three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a single garage.
Heavy 3 natural slate was chosen to comply with the requirements of local authorities, that requested for all houses to use materials that blended into the traditional Scottish architecture.
Bobby Halliday, an award-winning architect, was impressed by the properties of the Heavy 3 slate. His studio won the ‘Development of the Year’ award in the Herald Property Awards with a previous project also using CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate.
Halliday said: “Heavy 3 was ideal for this project due to its close resemblance to the traditional highland slate from Ballachulish that is no longer produced, making the CUPA PIZARRAS slate now the primary choice for traditional Scottish slate roofing, whether it be for new or refurbished roofs. In addition, it is the only slate that can successfully withstand the Scottish weather, thanks to its thickness of 7-8mm.”
Extracted from the Solana de Forcadas quarry in San Pedro de Trones (northern Spain) Heavy 3 stands out for its extra thickness of 7-8 mm, which provides the ideal strength to withstand Scottish weather while boosting the value of any property. Its 100-year guarantee offers total peace of mind.
Derek Waters of Derek Waters and Sons, the Roofing Contractor for this project, added: “the slates are solid and can stand up to any powerful weather”, whilst Allan Liddell, Area Sales Manager at CUPA PIZARRAS, added “We are proud to be part of this incredible renovation project.”
