SADOLIN wood protection has been drafted in to help transform a pub into a stunning venue in the heart of the East Midlands with a range of superior woodcare solutions.
The Maltsters Country Inn, in Badby, Daventry, was in a state of disrepair when Merlin Griffiths, bartender and owner of Greenhouse Pubs, took it over earlier this year.
To help with the restoration, he turned to Sadolin PV67 Heavy Duty Varnish and Sadolin Superdec wood protection after hearing glowing reports about the products.
Merlin Griffiths, a well-known face in the drinks industry with appearances on TV screens and in the media, also owns a second pub in Kilburn, London, where he first used the product.
Merlin, said: “I was recommended Sadolin PV67 by a flooring expert.
“When we were creating a boat deck finish on the floor in the Kilburn pub, he told me that I should use the product on my bar top too.
“The flooring expert said that he had used it in a famous gallery and I thought that was a pretty good recommendation and he was right.
“I’ve used it here on the bar top at The Maltsters and it’s dried crystal clear and rock hard, which is excellent.”
Available in either a gloss or satin finish, Sadolin PV67 Heavy Duty Varnish comes as a two-pack system and is renowned for its ease of application, and its beautiful, long-lasting finish.
Of particular appeal to the leisure and hospitality industry is its resistance to chemicals, enabling the product to cope with alcohol and soft drinks’ spills.
The hard-wearing formulation is also slip and scratch resistant and, as well as bar tops, it is the ideal product for heavy traffic floor areas such as dance floors and hallways.
Along with Sadolin PV67, Merlin sought out another high performance product from the range to give long-lasting protection to the windows of the 17th century building.
He chose Sadolin Superdec wood protection on the advice of a customer – a bespoke kitchen maker – who had seen the product demonstrated at a trade show.
Merlin said: “I was told by the customer about a product demonstration he’d been to where a rubber glove was dipped in to Sadolin Superdec and how, when the product had dried, they blew it up and you could see the product expanding and contracting.
“It’s this ability which gives Sadolin Superdec up to 10 years’ protection against the elements and that’s invaluable when you’ve got old windows like we have at The Maltsters and you’re not thinking about replacing them.”
Sadolin Superdec’s water-borne formulation offers a highly durable, opaque finish which erodes naturally by weathering, ensuring the coating remains flexible and resists cracking, peeling and flaking.
The product is also self-priming and undercoating, which reduces the need for an extra product on new wood, and means it needs little preparation when applied over previously decorated surfaces.
It’s also available in over 300 shades and is renowned for its comprehensive colour palette, as well as its outstanding protective qualities.
Summing up the project, Merlin added: “Now the work is done, I can trust the finish on the bar top and trust the finish on the windows.
“I can finally have some people resting their pints on a nice bar top, looking out of some freshly decorated windows at the great views.”
