Constitution Hill – The East-West Cycle Superhighway ..

Long Rake Spar were glad to hear they had been involved in the development of a new East-West Cycle Superhighway through central London.

To make the route through central London safer for cyclists and other road users this new East-West Cycle Superhighway will run from Tower Hill to Lancaster Gate.

Addagrip were contacted by Transport for London approved contractor F M Conway Ltd to lay 2,200m2 of their BBA approved Terrabound Resin Bound porous surfacing on a new stretch of cycle path that runs alongside Green Park.

To complement the location, an attractive natural aggregate was required for the surfacing and Long Rake Spar’s Rhine Gold 6mm was chosen.

The hardwearing qualities of the Rhine Gold ensure the smooth, porous surfacing will provide good slip resistance for the cyclists and deliver a low maintenance surface in this busy area of Central London.

F M Conway carried out the installation over 9 days, working in one of the busiest tourist locations in Central London and during a period of very hot weather. They started at Wellington Arch/Commonwealth Memorial end of Constitution Hill and finished the last 185m stretch outside Buckingham palace on Friday 8th July.

The work was completed alongside the existing path that runs along green park. A metal edging detail was used, separating the Resin Bound surface from the hoggin surface around the existing mature trees that line the roadside.

Oliver Stutts from FM Conway was delighted with the result:

‘Constitution Hill was the first scheme I have personally undertaken using this product. I was very much impressed with the delivery from Addagrip.

Due to the high profile nature of the works, the finished article needed to be of a high standard and the Addagrip Terrabound material certainly provided’
